Diagnosis and Testing
Varicocele, which refers to an enlarged vein in the scrotum, can be easily diagnosed through a physical examination. When the doctor performs a physical exam and feels a non-tender mass on your scrotum that feels like a bag of worms, it is likely that you have a varicocele.
As the vein becomes larger over time, it becomes more obvious and the doctor will be able to easily feel it. On the other hand, if the varicocele is small, your doctor will be able to detect the abnormal size of your vein by asking you to stand up, take a deep breath and hold your breath while you bear down.
