Diagnosis and Testing
Kidneys are bean-shaped organs about the size of a fist that are responsible for filtering urine before it passes into the bladder. It isn’t clear what causes kidney cancer, but we do know how it happens. Cells in your kidneys mutate and aggressively multiply. This causes a tumor to form either on or inside of the kidney. Doctors and specialist use a series of tests and screenings if you’re showing symptoms of kidney cancer. Starting with blood and urine screening and ending with a biopsy, these tests have been proven time and again to be accurate. Most cases can be diagnosed through a urine and blood screening, but if your Atlanta urologist remains suspicious you may be required to a CT or MRI scan and from there a kidney biopsy.
